How to Move an Account to a Different Client or Invoice

How to Move an Account to a Different Client or Invoice

You can combine clients onto one invoice by moving the accounts of one client to another client in BillFin. If I had client Jane Smith with accounts #1 and #2 and a client John Smith with accounts #3 and #4. I would move John’s accounts to Jane’s client, and then change Jane’s client name to Jane and John Smith.

Likewise, you can take an account from an existing client and move it to a new client. If Jane and John Smith have a daughter named Julie who becomes an adult and will be managed/billed separately from her parents, you could create a new client for Julie (Clients page > click on "Add Client" > a slideout window will open > enter the required details) and then move her account to that new client by following the steps below.

To Move an Account to a Different Client/Invoice:

Go to the Clients page

Find the client with the account(s) you want to move

Click on the client name to display the account(s) underneath

Move your cursor to the account you want to move

A pencil will display next to the account name

Move the mouse to the pencil to display the menu

Click “Move Account"

This will open a popup box where you can select the client to which the account should belong

-After moving the accounts, you can edit the client name. (In the example above I would change "Jane Smith" to "Jane & John Smith."  Don't delete any clients even if they no longer have any accounts.)
